Responsibilities:
- Serves as a clinical leader and resource for nurse practitioners, offering guidance and support in the management of complex neonatal cases.
- Contributes to budget planning and management, ensuring the efficient use of resources within the NICU.
- Manages resources effectively, including the allocation of equipment and supplies, to support the delivery of high-quality neonatal care.
- Oversees the scheduling and staffing of nurse practitioners, ensuring adequate coverage to meet the needs of the NICU.
- Ensures that all transport activities are conducted safely and following established protocols, providing comprehensive care during patient transfers.
- Provides guidance, mentorship, and support to nursing personnel, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of nursing personnel across all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Addresses and resolves any issues or concerns related to patient care, ensuring that high standards are maintained at all times.
- Collaborates closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Supports the ongoing professional development of nursing staff by identifying training needs and facilitating access to educational resources.
- Leads quality improvement initiatives within the NICU, identifying opportunities to enhance patient outcomes and optimize care delivery.
- Evaluates the performance of nurse practitioners, providing constructive feedback and supporting continuous improvement in clinical practice.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred.
- Ability to obtain a valid License as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) in the State of Alabama is required.
- Additional specialty certification for assigned unit (BLS, PALS, NRP, ACLS, etc.).
- Minimum of at least 3 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a neonatal intensive care setting.
- Ability to work 24-hour shifts, with a requirement of 10 shifts over a 6-week period.
- Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and participate in neonatal transport as needed.
- Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development and Continuing Education in nursing practices.
- Proficiency in using healthcare technology and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS) and ability to ensure compliance with healthcare standards.
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a high-stress environment.
